At long last, the Expert Panel on Adoption and Infertility has released its report. The Panel is recommending that OHIP fund up to 3 cycles of IVF and up to 4 cycles of IUI. The panel is also recommending sweeping changes to make it easier for Ontario families to adopt. Here is the entire report.
If implemented, these recommendations would help to ease the emotional and financial burden of infertility for many Ontario families. Sadly, Minister Deb Matthews and the current provincial government has not committed to the implementation of these recommendations. They have not even provided a time frame within which they plan to look at the issue.
Ontario's infertile families have been suffering for long enough. We need to speak as one voice to convince the government to move quickly to fund treatment for infertility. Conceivable Dreams is hoping to organize another public awareness event soon. We will message you all with more information about how you can help acheive the goal of public funding for IVF and infertility treatment.
In the meantime, let your local MPP know that you support the Expert Panel's recommendations!
